Human skills fieldtrip

First Year Geographers explored the geographies of shopping & retailing in Oxford and considered their relevant economic, social, cultural, political and technological dimensions in relation to a choice of topics: the state of Oxford’s retail space, retailing and e-tailing, transport accessibility and competitiveness, adaptation and independent retailers. The fieldwork consisted of enjoyable day of research conducted mainly in the form of interviews with members of the public in Oxford’s central shopping areas.

Each fieldwork group analysed their findings on their respective topics in their reports and the results were found to be varied, eye-opening and potentially useful to Oxford’s city and transport councils in terms of managing their retail space.
